'Neath the tapestry
Foretold
What we would become
In the blank gaze
Of half shut eyes

Some bitter rain
Must have put out the flame

He turned away
His sun-deprived face
And faced me with his silence

At the others
Leaving only ashes

I fell into colder dreams
A clung to a strand of dark hair
I twisted words to resemble meaning
I turned to look where we had been
But the dream was gone
The kindness spent
Turned to distance
I reached out my hand
I tried to touch him through the silence
Felt him stir in the darkness
But my words broke upon deaf ears
Like waves upon the rocks
I saw his eyes flash with the coming of the moon
And the silhouettes of his friends
In colder dreams I walked alone
And my hands were twitching, empty
I saw the sun in his face
